Former Channel 10 weatherman Mike Larkan is ready to “forecast fabulous sales” in his new career as a real estate auctioneer.
The beloved TV personality presented the weather on the network for nearly 25 years until his shock sacking last year. But being let go lead him to pursue his long-held interest of real estate as his next gig.
And after a successful stint working for McGrath Sandringham as a sales agent over the past year, he’s ready to bring his sunny disposition to selling homes on the streets of Melbourne.
Larkan has joined independent auctioneering company EYS auctions and is looking forward to conducting auctions after lockdown.
“In Melbourne, the two things everyone talks about is the weather and real estate,” Larkan said.
“I got my real estate sales license about 10 or so years ago when I also was doing my wedding celebrant course. I was working full-time at Channel 10, so I was reasonably busy and realised I was too busy to get involved in real estate properly.”
But the qualified celebrant, who marries couples weekly, said it was finally the right time to pursue auctioneering.
“It was always something that was at the back of my mind,” Larkan said.
“I’ve been a radio announcer since I was young, so I can pull together a few words and add a few numbers.”
“What I’m hoping to do now is work a couple of twilight auctions Thursday, Friday and do some auctions at 9am, 10am, 11am on a Saturday and then do weddings over the weekend.”
The Bayside local is also keen to carry over some weatherman humour to his new role, with his new catchphrase: “forecasting a fabulous sale”.
“I do miss (presenting the weather) and I sometimes do it on social media, but I’m really excited about this next chapter,” he added.
“I know when I marry couples I often get work because people say they want to be married by Mike Larkan, so I hope they might want me to sell their homes too.”
